Fuquan Edwin scored on a layup with 8.3 seconds remaining to lift the visiting Pirates in the Big East Conference opener for both teams.

Edwin, who came in averaging 18.2 points, struggled with foul trouble in the second half before coming through in the clutch. He finished with 11 points. Aaron Cosby scored a season-high 24 points to lead Seton Hall (12-2) and Brandon Mobley contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Jamee Crockett finished with a season-high 16 points as well as seven rebounds and a career-high five steals for DePaul (9-5). Brandon Young contributed 15 points and Durrell McDonald scored a season-high 12 for the Blue Demons.

Seton Hall led by as many as 12 points in the first half before taking a 40-32 lead into the break.

DePaul eventually tied the score at 52 on a 3-pointer by McDonald with 9:50 remaining, then moved ahead a minute later on a three-point play by Young. The teams traded baskets until Edwin missed a jumper with 11 seconds remaining, Seton Hall grabbed the offensive rebound and then called timeout, setting up the winning basket.

GAME NOTEBOOK: DePaul fell to 1-7 all-time in Big East openers. … Seton Hall C Eugene Teague had 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. … Seton Hall shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from 3-point range in the first half, but was hurt by 12 turnovers and six offensive rebounds by DePaul.
