Temple 83, No. 3 Syracuse 79: Khalif Wyatt scored a career-high 33 points, making all 15 of his free throws, as the Owls surprised the Orange at Madison Square Garden.

Anthony Lee added a career-high 21 points and 11 rebounds, and provided the bulk of the offense during a 13-2 run early in the second half to give Temple (9-2) a nine-point lead. Syracuse (10-1) battled its way back, but Wyatt drained six free throws down the stretch.

C.J. Fair scored 25 points and Brandon Triche added 17 for the Orange, who made just two of their 10 attempts from 3-point range and were 19-of-34 at the free-throw line. Michael Carter-Williams chipped in with 13 points for Syracuse, but was 7-of-15 from the charity stripe after coming in shooting over 80 percent.

Wyatt was 7-of-12 from the field en route to a 20-point first half as Temple rallied from 10 points down to trail 40-38 at intermission. Fair registered 14 points in the opening 20 minutes, including 10 of Syracuse’s last 13.

Temple made eight 3-pointers and was 29-of-36 at the free-throw line in the game, held as part of the round robin Gotham Classic taking place at multiple sites. The Owls rebounded from a 10-point home loss to Canisius on Wednesday.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carter-Williams had four assists after coming into the game averaging 10.7, tops in the nation. … Temple’s Scootie Randall made two big second-half 3-pointers. He was 3-of-27 from beyond the arc in the previous four games. …Syracuse still leads the all-time series 16-14.
