No. 19 Michigan State 73, Loyola-Chicago 61: Freshman guard Gary Harris buried four 3-pointers in the second half en route to a season-high 20 points as the host Spartans pulled away from the Ramblers.

Harris finished 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and center Adreian Payne came off the bench to score 14, including a follow slam that put the Spartans up 58-51 with six minutes to go. Michigan State (8-2) controlled the glass by a 32-27 margin and snapped Loyola's four-game win streak.

Senior forward Ben Avercamp led Loyola (6-3) with 25 points and eight rebounds, and reserve guard Devon Turk added 10 points. Loyola went on an early 14-0 run and led 32-30 at halftime.

Payne, a junior, notched his third career double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds to go with his 14 points. Keith Appling dished out seven assists and Branden Dawson blocked four shots. Travis Trice added 11 points off the bench.

Michigan State came in averaging a Big Ten-high 15.3 turnovers but took better care of the ball, committing 12 turnovers.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Spartans have won 70 straight home games against unranked nonconference opponents. … Loyola hasn’t beaten a ranked Big Ten team since an 83-82 win over No. 9 Illinois on Dec. 27, 1986. … Turk shot 2-of-5 from beyond the arc and is now 17-of-35 this season.
