Mississippi State 53, Texas-San Antonio 42: Wendell Lewis came off the bench to score 11 of his team-high 20 points in the second half as the host Bulldogs pulled away from the Roadrunners.

Lewis shot 8-for-9 from the field and Colin Borchert added a team-high 10 rebounds for Mississippi State (3-5), which won for the third time in as many home outings.

Kannon Burrage recorded a team-high 15 points despite going 4-for-18 from the field for Texas-San Antonio (3-5), which has dropped four in a row.

After Jeromie Hill's dunk trimmed Mississippi State's lead to 26-23, Lewis made a pair of layups and sank three free throws to highlight his team's 13-6 run.

Craig Sword drilled a jumper to push the Bulldogs' advantage to 44-34 before blocking a 3-point attempt on the defensive end. Mississippi State wasn't threatened the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mississippi State prevented its first 2-6 start to a season since the 1950-51 campaign. ... Texas-San Antonio shot just 24 percent from the field in the first half, but only trailed by six (23-17) at intermission. ...
