Maryland 67, Morehead State 45: Nick Faust led a balanced attack with 12 points and the host Terrapins closed the first half with a 17-8 run to cruise to their first win of the season.

Maryland (1-1), which nearly upended defending national champion Kentucky in the opener, had little trouble putting away the Eagles (1-1) in the Barclays Center Classic. The Terrapins held Morehead State to 31.7 percent shooting, and shot 29 free throws to the Eagles’ eight.

Leading 18-11 with 7:25 left in the first half, the Terrapins scored 17 of the final 25 points. Thirteen of Maryland’s points during the run came on free throws, including six from Shaquille Cleare as the Terrapins led 35-19 at halftime.

After shooting only 33.3 percent in the loss to Kentucky, the Terrapins shot 48.9 percent against Morehead State. Alex Len added 11 points and James Padgett nine for Maryland.

Milton Chavis led Morehead State with 10 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Len earned ACC Player of the Week honors after establishing career highs with 23 points and 12 rebounds against Kentucky. … Morehead State hit only 1 of 10 3-point attempts in the first half, and finished 1-for-14 from beyond the arc.
