Marquette 84, Colgate 63: Jamil Wilson scored 15 points and the host Golden Eagles pulled away in the second half in their season opener.

Davante Gardner added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench for Marquette (1-0), which had its scheduled opener against Ohio State in the Maul Invitational canceled Friday night due to condensation on the court of the USS Yorktown.

Murphy Burnatowski had 24 points and 12 rebounds - both game highs - and Pat Moore scored 16 points for the Red Raiders (0-2), who lost at Illinois in their season opener.

The Golden Eagles bolted to an early 11-point lead but Colgate pulled within 36-31 before Wilson and Vander Blue had all the points in a 6-0 run to close the half for a 42-31 advantage.

Marquette finally put the game away midway through the second half with a 7-0 burst, capped by a 3-pointer from Juan Anderson for a 66-46 advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: C Chris Otule also was in double figures with 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting for Marquette, which won its 12th consecutive season opener. ... After being dominated on the backboards (47-32) in the loss at Illinois, Colgate outrebounded the Golden Eagles (39-34) with the 12 boards from Burnatowski and 10 from Luke Roh. ... Colgate connected on 5 of 11 3-point attempts in the first half, but went cold after the break and finished 9 of 28.
