Marquette 88, BYU 68: Jae Crowder scored 25 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead Marquette to a win over fatigued BYU.

The third-seeded Golden Eagles (26-7) play No. 6 seed Murray State on Saturday.

Darius Johnson-Odom added 20 points as the Golden Eagles led from start to finish and raced to a 19-point lead in the first half then held off a BYU push early in the second half. After trailing 49-34 at halftime, the Cougars (26-9) cut the deficit to 52-46, but an 8-0 Marquette run increased the lead to 60-46 and the Golden Eagles were never threatened.

No. 14 seed BYU, which set an NCAA tournament record by rallying from 25 down to beat Iona in the first round on Tuesday, could not keep up with Marquette's frantic pace. Brandon Davies led the Cougars with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crowder became the 44th player in Marquette history to top the 1,000 point mark, and just the fifth to do it in two years ... Crowder has 13 double-doubles this season and four in a row. The last to accomplish the feat was Johnson-Odom last year (1,026). … The Golden Eagles won their first game of the tournament for the fourth time in the last five years.
