SETON HALL 77, RUTGERS 72 (OT):
Jerome Seagears’ baseline 3-pointer with 17 seconds left in overtime lifted the visiting Scarlet Knights.

Seagears finished with 16 points and six assists and Dane Miller had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting for Rutgers (13-16, 5-11 Big East), which snapped a six-game losing streak.

Seton Hall (19-10, 8-9 Big East) saw its chances of advancing to the NCAA Tournament take a devastating blow. With a win, the Pirates would have moved a game above .500 in Big East play with a game left.

Now they’ll need to earn a victory at DePaul on Saturday to finish 9-9 in conference play. No Big East team since the 1994-95 Pirates has finished below .500 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Seton Hall, which fell behind early in overtime and never led, had a chance to tie the game on its final possession. However, Jordan Theodore’s 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left rimmed out, and Rutgers put the game away from the free throw line.

Theodore finished with a team-high 17 points and nine assists for the Pirates, who lost for the second time in three games. Herb Pope had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Fuquan Edwin added 13.

Aaron Cosby had 12 points and Patrik Auda came off the bench to score 10 for Seton Hall.

Rutgers, which trailed 32-28 at the half, took a 65-62 lead with 1:28 left in regulation on Gilvydas Biruta’s dunk before Theodore made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to send the game to overtime.

Eli Carter had 17 points and Biruta added 16 for the Scarlet Knights, who shot 52.7 percent and held a 29-27 advantage on the boards.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
