MARYLAND 75, MIAMI 70: James Padgett scored 16 points, including the go-ahead three-point play with 44 seconds left, and freshman Nick Faust came up with a key steal late as host Maryland dealt Miami’s NCAA Tournament hopes a blow.

Terrell Stoglin, the ACC’s leading scorer, had a game-high 20 points for Maryland (16-11, 6-7 ACC).

The Terrapins held Miami (16-10, 7-6) to two field goals in the final 9:07 and closed the game on a 16-4 run. The Terrapins avenged a 90-86 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes earlier this month.

Kenny Kadji recorded 16 points and eight rebounds for Miami. It was a crushing loss for the Hurricanes, who haven’t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2007-08 and entered as one of many teams on the "bubble."

Miami maintained a slim lead down the stretch by scoring 10 straight points at the free-throw line, but Sean Mosley’s 3-pointer cut the Hurricanes’ lead to 66-64 with 1:37 left. On the next possession, Padgett was fouled on an offensive put-back and completed the three-point play.

Faust stripped Durand Scott at the other end and Maryland iced the game with eight straight free throws.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The Terrapins scored 12 of the game’s first 15 points. Miami responded with an 11-3 run. … Maryland had more assists in the first 13-plus minutes (six) than it had in Saturday’s 71-44 loss to Virginia (three).
