Moe Harkless had 23 points and 13 rebounds and D’Angelo Harrison added 19 points as St. Johns defeated visiting West Virginia 78-62 on Wednesday.

The Red Storm (9-11, 3-6 Big East) snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Mountaineers (15-6, 5-3) for the second consecutive time. Despite coming into the game last in the conference in shooting percentage, St. Johns hit 31 of 64 shots (48 percent), led by Harkless, who was 11 of 20.

West Virginia, which had its three-game winning streak snapped and fell into a three-way tie for third in the conference with South Florida and Cincinnati, cut a 21-point deficit to nine on Darryl Bryant’s 3-pointer with 2:52 left in the game. Harrison, though, made a circus shot on the baseline and completed the three-point play, then added a lay up to push the lead back out to 15.

West Virginia’s Kevin Jones had 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and also had 12 rebounds.

The Mountaineers struggled shooting the entire first half as the Red Storm led 36-20 at halftime. West Virginia missed 13 of its first 16 shots, which allowed St. John's to go on a 17-2 run and build a 21-6 lead.

West Virginia went 2 of 10 from 3-point range in the opening half, but the only two to fall were from Jabarie Hinds, who opened and closed a 10-2 run with a long ball to cut the deficit to seven. St. Johns finished the half strong as Harkless got six of his 14 first-half points down the stretch.
