Jamil Wilson scored nine of his 16 points during the decisive second-half spurt as No. 22 Marquette pulled away late for a 79-72 victory over host Providence on Saturday.
The game was tied at 57 with 12:14 to go before the Golden Eagles (15-4, 5-2 Big East) embarked on a 14-3 run, with Wilson scoring the first nine Marquette points and Davante Gardner adding the next five.
The Friars (12-8, 1-6) went more than seven minutes without a field goal as the visitors built an insurmountable 71-60 lead.
Marquette was nearly unstoppable from outside, making 9 of 11 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles shot 54 percent (29 for 54) overall and had 21 assists.
Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom scored 18 points apiece to lead four Marquette players in double figures. Crowder's 3-pointer with 2:36 left put the Golden Eagles up 74-62.
Junior Cadougan dished out 10 assists for Marquette.
Bryce Cotton scored 28 points for the Friars, who led at the half 40-39.
