Anthony Hickey had 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists Tuesday as LSU edged Auburn 65-58 in overtime at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Justin Hamilton overcame a poor second half to chip 13 points and eight rebounds for LSU (12-6, 2-2 SEC), which ended a two-game slide by holding its 10th opponent in the last 12 games under 60 points.

With 21 seconds left in regulation and LSU leading 55-53, Hickey had a chance to double his team’s lead, but he missed the second of two foul shots.

On the subsequent possession, Auburn (11-7, 1-3) knotted the game at 56 when Varez Ward ended a wild sequence that included three shots and two offensive rebounds with a 3-pointer with just four seconds remaining.

However, Auburn – which turned the ball over just nine times in regulation – committed turnovers on its first four possessions of the extra period.

Following a go-ahead basket by Hamilton, Andre Stringer – who was deemed questionable for the game due to a hip pointer and benched at the start of the game for being late to a film session on Monday – then drilled a 3-pointer to give LSU an insurmountable 63-58 lead with 43 seconds remaining.

Hickey hit a pair of free throws to account for the final margin.

Frankie Sullivan led all scorers with 19 points off the bench for Auburn, which just missed out on its opportunity to surpass last season’s win total.
