Maryland continued its domination of Georgia Tech on Sunday, grinding out a 61-50 home win. The Terrapins have won 11 of the last 12 meetings with the Yellow Jackets and eight in a row overall at home.

Glen Rice Jr. averaged 25 points in his first two ACC games but was held to just six by Maryland (12-4, 2-1 ACC), which is getting comfortable winning ugly under first-year coach Mark Turgeon’s slow-paced system. Georgia Tech (8-9, 1-2 ACC), meanwhile, has lost five of six.

Terrell Stoglin scored seven straight points, including a four-point play, during Maryland’s 12-3 run early in the second half to take a 38-26 advantage. Both teams shot less than 34 percent from the field, but the Terrapins, the second-worst free throw shooting team in conference, made 19 of 23 from the stripe to seal the win. Sean Mosley made all 10 of his freebies to finish with a game-high 18 points.

Stoglin, the ACC’s leading scorer, poured in 14 points, but he’ll need to be more efficient if the Terrapins are to keep climbing toward the top tier of the conference. He was four of 12 just one game after taking 18 shots to score 20 points against Wake Forest. Stoglin, though, was forced to create off the dribble for most of the day as point guard Pe’Shon Howard had just one assist. A smoother half-court offense will be needed as Maryland will now play consecutive road games for the first time all season followed by a matchup with No. 6 Duke.
