Oregon opened the Pacific-12 season with its best half of the season, leading Washington State by 20 at intermission en route to a 92-75 win over the Cougars Thursday in Spokane, Wash.

The hot-shooting Ducks (10-3, 1-0 in the Pacific-12) got 19 points in the half from forward Olu Ashaolu, who came off the bench to wind up with 23 points for the night. It was just the third double-digit scoring game of the season for Ashaolu, whose previous season best was 13 against Texas-El Paso.

At one point in the final minutes of the first half Oregon went 13-of-17 from the field to keep building distance between themselves and the Cougars (8-5, 0-1), who were playing at Spokane with students in Pullman away for the holiday break.

The Ducks’ hot shooting tapered off in the second half, but Washington State was never able to take enough advantage to make the game close in the second half. Devoe Joseph finished with 17 points for Oregon, which hit 68 percent from the field (34-of-50).

WSU guard DaVonte Lacy had one of his best overall game of the year with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the line. Reggie Moore finished with 14 and Brock Motum added a dozen for the Cougars.
