Justin Cobbs scored 25 points and Allen Crabbe added 19 as California never trailed in cruising past visiting UC Santa Barbara 70-50 on Monday.

UCSB (5-4) got to within 43-33 with 16:07 on a field goal by Jaime Serna, but California (10-2), which won its fourth consecutive game, took control immediately after that. Cobbs and Crabbe combined for 13 points during a 16-0 run that put the Bears up 59-33.

The Bears were nearly perfect from the field at the start of the game. Led by Crabbe, who hit his first three 3-point attempts, California knocked down their first six from behind the arc, and 12 of their first 17 shots overall in building first-half leads of 33-16 on a field goal by Harper Kamp at the 5:46 mark and as large as 37-19 on two of Justin Cobbs’ 11 first-half points.

Meanwhile, California continued to find a way to shut down some of the country’s top scorers. Like they did Friday against Damian Lillard of Weber State, holding the nation’s leading scorer to his season-low point total, the Bears clamped down on the country’s fourth-leading scorer Orlando Johnson, keeping the senior guard to 4-for-13 shooting and only nine points, 13 below his season average.

James Nunnally led the Gauchos with 10 points.
