Sophomore sensation Doug McDermott scored a career-high 35 points on 16-of-23 shooting as No. 21 Creighton defeated host Tulsa 83-64 on Monday.

Creighton (9-1) has won at least three non-conference road games for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

Creighton used a steady dose of McDermott and Antoine Young to take a 42-34 halftime lead. McDermott was rarely double teamed and banked in shot after shot from around the basket.

McDermott, a 55 percent 3-point shooter, didn’t attempt a 3-pointer until nailing one as the shot clock expired with 12 minutes left in the second half.

Creighton only attempted six as a team, and made three. It was the ninth straight 20-plus-point game for McDermott, the first Bluejay to achieve such a feat in more than 30 years.

Center Gregory Echenique picked up his second foul only five minutes in and didn’t return until the second half. He then promptly scored nine straight points as Creighton expanded its lead to 51-34.

Young, Creighton’s only senior, finished with 14 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists. Grant Gibbs chipped in 10 assists to only two turnovers.

Tulsa (5-7) was led by Jordan Clarkson's 14 points while Tim Peete added 12.

The Golden Hurricane start a pair of 6-foot-11 players but were outscored in the paint 46-26 and outrebounded 37-29. Tulsa had yet to lose a game by more than 10 points.
