Visiting Indiana State staged a furious rally with sophomore guard Jake Odum scoring or assisting on Indiana State’s final seven points in a 61-55 upset win over No. 25 Vanderbilt Saturday.

With a little over six minutes to play, the Commodores led by eight and seemed in control.

Vanderbilt (6-4) led 53-45 after Lance Goulbourne had a three-point play, but Indiana State (8-2) went on a 12-0 run, capped when Odum got the last of his seven assists on a pretty feed to Carl Richard to put the Sycamores up 57-53 with 1:05 left in the game.

Indiana State got off to a great start, hitting four 3-pointers, two of those from R.J. Mahurin, who finished with a team-high 16 points, as the Sycamores built a 16-4 lead.

Vanderbilt, which started the game missing nine of its first 11 shots, then went on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 16-16. John Jenkins, the SEC’s leading scorer, got a layup off a steal and assist by Jeffery Taylor, and Jenkins added a pair of free throws to help the Commodores build their largest lead of the half at 28-23, but Indiana State got a 3-pointer from Carl Richard to pull even at 28-28 at halftime.

Taylor had a game-high 21 points for Vanderbilt.
