Jorge Gutierrez scored 24 points as California cruised past visiting Weber State 77-57 on Friday.

Allen Crabbe added 16 points for the Golden Bears (9-2), who improved to 8-0 at home.

California quickly took charge by scoring the first eight points and eventually extended its advantage to as many as 17 points in the first half.

The Golden Bears stretched the lead to 27 points late in the second half.

California’s defense, which had surrendered less than 50 points in consecutive games, maintained its steady play on that end by limiting the damage of the nation’s leading scorer, Damian Lillard.

Lillard hit only one of his first 10 shots in the first half and finished 4-of-17 from the field for 14 points, nearly 13 points below his season average entering the contest.

Scott Bamforth scored 19 points for Weber State (6-3), which shot only 31.3 percent from the field.
