Senior guard Sammy Zeglinski scored a season-high 18 points to spark Virginia to its sixth straight victory, a 68-48 win over George Mason on Tuesday.
Zeglinski made 6 of 11 from the field, including four 3-pointers, to finish in double figures for the third straight game. The Cavaliers (8-1) also got 13 points from Jontel Evans, who made 6 of 8 shots, and 11 points each from Joe Harris and Mike Scott. The Cavs shot 55.3 percent from the floor.
Virginia has now held each of its nine opponents to less than 60 points, the first time that’s happened since the 1948-49 season.
George Mason (6-3) had its four-game winning streak snapped. The Patriots did not have any players score in double figures; Vertrail Vaughns and Mike Morrison each scored nine.
Virginia led 33-22 at halftime and suffered only one scare in the second half. With 9:38 remaining, Mason cut the lead to 10 and had possession, but threw the ball out of bounds and watched as Virginia made back-to-back baskets and was never threatened again.
