Tyshawn Taylor scored 20 of his game-high 24 points after halftime and No. 14 Kansas overcame a sloppy first half to blow past visiting South Florida 70-42 on Saturday.
The Jayhawks (5-2) missed their first nine shots from 3-point range and led only 24-21 at halftime, but they went on a 20-6 run midway through the second half to seize control of their first meeting with the Bulls.
Thomas Robinson added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Conner Teahan scored 11 off the bench for Kansas, which committed nine turnovers and shot only 37 percent in the first half.
Augustus Gilchrist scored 11 points for South Florida (5-4), which has lost two straight.
The Bulls hung close into the second half despite poor shooting, but eventually the more talented Jayhawks took over.
Kansas’ lead ballooned to double digits for the first time on Travis Releford’s 3-pointer from the left wing that made it 41-31. On the next possession, Taylor found Teahan wide open in the left corner for another 3-pointer that stretched the lead to 44-33 with 10:17 left.
With just more than three minutes remaining, Taylor knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner and then hit Robinson for a fast-break dunk that made it 67-39.
The Jayhawks entered the game averaging only 5.3 made 3-pointers per game and finished only 7-of-25 from beyond the arc.
