Faisal Aden scored 21 points and Brock Motum added 13 to lead Washington State to an 83-73 victory over host Portland.

Aden had nine of his points during a first-half run that put the Cougars (2-1) ahead to stay. Washington State defeated the Pilots (2-2) for the fifth consecutive time.

Kevin Bailey scored 14 points for Portland, which shot 40 percent from the field.

The Cougars, who led 43-33 at halftime, shot 56 percent and had 12 steals. DaVonte Lacy had 11 points and three steals for Washington State, which also got three steals apiece from Aden and Reggie Moore.

After the Pilots pulled within six early in the second half, the Cougars responded with an 11-2 spurt. Moore hit two free throws to give the Cougars a 58-43 lead with 14:34 remaining.

Mitrovic and Ryan Nicholas scored 11 points apiece for the Pilots, who committed 20 turnovers.
