Kendall Williams scored 16 points to highlight a solid all-around performance as visiting New Mexico downed Arizona State 76-71 on Friday.

Williams also added seven rebounds and seven assists as the Lobos (2-1) gave coach Steve Alford his 100th win at New Mexico.

Preseason Mountain West Conference Player of the Year selection Drew Gordon rebounded from a poor performance in Wednesday’s home loss against New Mexico State to chip in 13 points and nine boards.

In a game where neither team could establish a lead of more than five points, Tony Snell finally gave the Lobos some breathing room at the 3:30 mark of the second half when he drilled a 3-pointer to leave the visitors with an eight-point advantage.

But the Sun Devils (1-2) answered with a 6-0 run before both teams exchanged baskets and Williams closed the game with three free throws to account for the final margin.

Carrick Felix led all scorers with 20 points for Arizona State, which committed 19 turnovers.
