Bo Spencer scored 22 points and Jorge Brian Diaz scored the go-ahead basket in the second overtime as Nebraska notched a 64-61 victory over host USC on Monday.

Maurice Jones scored 18 points for the Trojans and missed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left that would have forced a third extra session.

Diaz’s hoop gave the Cornhuskers (2-0) a 58-56 lead with three minutes left and Nebraska eventually increased the lead to six before USC (1-1) pulled within 62-61 on Dewayne Dedmon’s dunk with 9 seconds left.

Spencer hit two free throws with 8.2 seconds remaining before Jones came up empty on his game-tying bid.

USC had a chance to win the contest in regulation, but Dedmon missed a wide-open free-throw line jumper at the buzzer.

In the first overtime, Jones hit an acrobatic driving bank shot with 6.5 seconds left to give the Trojans a 54-52 lead but Nebraska’s Toney McCray hit two free throws with 2.8 seconds to go.

Brandon Richardson scored 12 points on four 3-point baskets and Diaz had 10 points for Nebraska, which shot only 36.5 percent and committed 19 turnovers.

Aaron Fuller had 13 points and Alexis Moore scored 11 for USC, which shot 33.3 percent.

Jones hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 4:37 remaining in regulation to give USC a 47-45 advantage. Nebraska tied the game at 49 on two free throws by McCray with 58.9 seconds left.
