Mason Plumlee had 13 points and 14 rebounds as No. 6 Duke survived visiting Belmont 77-76 on in the season opener for both teams on Friday and hand coach Mike Krzyzewski his 901st career victory.

Krzyzewski is one win shy of tying his former mentor - Bob Knight - for the most wins in NCAA history. He'll have a chance to get it Saturday at home against Presbyterian.

The Blue Devils stretched their non-conference winning streak at home to 87 and their overall streak at Cameron to 37, the most in major college play.

The Blue Devils led 39-30 at the half and opened up a 16-point lead before Belmont showed the cool and the guts that led to a 30-5 record last year by clawing to within 61-60.

Plumlee, a junior forward who also had six assists and two blocked shots, dished off to Ryan Kelly for a layup and a three-point play, and followed a missed shot with a jam that made it 66-60.

Ian Clark, the Bruins’ leading scorer a year ago, drove the middle for a three-point play that got the Bruins to within 72-71 with 51 seconds to play.

Duke’s Andre Dawkins came out of a time out with the biggest 3-point shot of the game, a bomb from the top of the key with 16.7 seconds to go that was followed by two free throws from Kelly for a 77-73 lead before a Clark 3-pointer finished the scoring.

Clark finished with 13 points.
