Heralded freshman Cody Zeller had his coming-out party, scoring 16 points to lead Indiana to a 96-66 victory over Stony Brook.

Indiana (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) won its 14th straight season opener and its 26th straight home opener. Stony Brook (0-1, 0-0 America East) missed out on a resume win in its quest for its first NCAA Tournament bid.

Zeller scored just four points in the first half, but erupted for 12 in the second half, adding 10 rebounds in his college debut. The 7-footer was also a force on defense, grabbing two steals, blocking three shots, and changing numerous others.

Indiana’s speed and depth kept Stony Brook on its heels most of the night. The Hoosiers took control 15 minutes into the first half and held a 45-28 advantage at the break. The Hoosier finished the game shooting over 65 percent from the field.

Stony Brook went just 5 for 20 from beyond the arc, as standouts Bryan Dougher and Tommy Brenton struggled. They combined for just six points.

Will Sheehey paced IU with 13 points in the first half, but was ruled out for the second half after suffering flu-like symptoms. Sophomore Victor Oladipo added 16 points in the win.

Anthony Jackson led Stony Brook with 14 points while Dallis Joyner chipped in with 10 points.
