CHICAGO - Brandon Rozzell scored a season-high 26 points and No. 11 seed Virginia Commonwealth continued to show it belongs in the NCAA tournament with a 74-56 upset over No. 6 seed Georgetown in the second round Friday.

Rozzell hit six of VCU's season-high 12 3-pointers to help the Rams advance to the Round of 32, where they will face No. 3 seed Purdue on Sunday.

Joey Rodriguez had 17 points and seven assists, and Bradford Burgess added 12 points and eight rebounds for VCU (25-11), which handled the struggling Hoyas with surprising ease.

The Rams, who beat Southern Cal in a “First Four” matchup in Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday, took control with a 36-9 run that bridged the first and second halves. They led by as many as 25 in the second half.

Hollis Thompson had 26 points for Georgetown (21-11), which shot 5 of 25 from beyond the arc and ended the season with five straight losses.

The Hoyas suffered a third straight early-round exit despite the return of star senior guard Chris Wright from a broken non-shooting hand. Wright and Georgetown's leading scorer, Austin Freeman, combined to shoot 6 of 27 from the field, though.
