Kevin Anderson led the way with 25 points as 12th-seeded Richmond knocked off No. 5 seed Vanderbilt, 69-66, in the second round of the NCAA tournament in Denver on Thursday.

Justin Harper added 13 points and Francis-Cedric Martel went 4 of 4 from beyond the arc for 12 points off the bench for the Spiders (28-7), who will face No. 13 seed Morehead State in the third round of the Southwest Region on Saturday. The Eagles picked off No. 4 seed Louisville at the buzzer earlier Thursday.

Festus Ezeli and John Jenkins scored 21 points apiece to help keep it close for the Commodores (23-11), who went the final 4:52 without a field goal.

Vanderbilt had a chance to tie it despite its struggles from the floor when Lance Goulbourne went to the line with 50 seconds left and down by two points. Goulbourne hit the first but could not convert the second, leaving the Spiders up.

The Commodores got the offensive rebound but had the ball stolen, and Anderson drove toward the lane before pulling up and hitting a jumper to stretch it to 68-65 with 18 seconds to play.

Richmond trailed, 48-39, early in the second half, but Anderson hit three straight 3-pointers during a 12-0 run to put the Spiders on top.
