Jeff Brooks scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half as Penn State took control and dropped Indiana 61-55 on Thursday night in the first round of the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis.

Andrew Jones had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Talor Battle added 13 points for the sixth-seeded Lions (17-13), who used an 11-4 edge on the offensive boards to help earn a meeting with third-seeded Wisconsin in the quarterfinals Friday night.

Christian Watford had 15 points as Indiana, the 11th seed, finished its season 12-20.

With Penn State nursing a one-point lead at the break, Brooks opened the second half with a three-point play and added a couple of jumpers, and Battle’s second 3-pointer of the half forged a 45-39 edge with 12½ minutes to play.

Brooks added a turn-around jumper in the lane, then Battle drove baseline and found Jones for a layup and a 53-44 lead with seven minutes left. The Lions were able to maintain the lead the rest of the way.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half with Penn State getting a follow shot by Brooks for a 28-27 lead at the break. Battle was 1 of 6 for five points.
