Freshman Calvin Godfrey came off the bench to score a career-high 23 points as host Iowa State dealt Colorado’s possible NCAA Tournament hopes a serious blow with a 95-90 victory on Wednesday.

Iowa State (16-14, 3-12 Big 12), which knocked off another bubble team, Nebraska, on Saturday, shot 70 percent in the second half while building a 12-point lead before holding off a late surge by Colorado (18-12, 7-8 Big 12), which had won two in a row and three of four.

Godfrey, who was 10 for 11 from the field, recorded his second career double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds for the Cyclones, who shot a season-high 57 percent from the floor and have beaten the Buffaloes six straight times at Hilton Coliseum, and 19 of the last 20.

Scott Christopherson scored 17 points, Diante Garrett and Jake Anderson had 16 apiece, and senior Jamie Vanderbeken added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the final home game of his career.

Colorado, which cut Iowa State’s lead to 83-81 with 2:02 remaining, could never get the lead in the second half.

Alec Burks led the Buffaloes with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Marcus Relphorde added a season-high 21.
