Freshman Keith Appling scored 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting as Michigan State pulled away for an 85-66 victory over Iowa in the Spartans' home finale Wednesday evening.

Appling and Draymond Green hit 3-pointers during an 11-2 spurt that put the Spartans (17-12, 9-8 Big Ten) ahead, 52-39, with 12:45 to go. Iowa got as close as 59-50 before Michigan State responded with a 15-3 surge to ice it.

Senior Kalin Lucas scored 17 points and Green added 12 points and eight rebounds for Michigan State, which shot 54.5 percent (30 of 55) overall and 7 of 14 from 3-point range.

Matt Gatens and Melsahn Basabe scored 13 points apiece for the Hawkeyes (10-19, 3-14), who missed all 12 of their 3-point attempts and hit just 20-of-33 foul shots.
