Rodney McGruder scored 22 points and Jacob Pullen added 20 as visiting Kansas State added to its at-large resume for an NCAA Tournament bid with a 75-70 victory over No. 8 Texas on Monday.

Curtis Kelly collected 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Wildcats (21-9, 9-6 Big 12), who have won five straight, including three over ranked teams, to burst back into the national spotlight.

Tristan Thompson scored 26 points for Texas but star Jordan Hamilton was held to 14 on 5-of-18 shooting as the slumping Longhorns dropped out of a tie for first place in the Big 12. They have lost three of their last four games.

Texas led, 33-31, at the half but Kelly hit back-to-back jumpers to open the second and spark an 8-0 run that gave Kansas State the lead. The Longhorns kept it within single digits the rest of the way and closed to within 62-59 with 4:46 to play.

But Shane Southwell and Pullen hit back-to-back layups to stretch it back out and the surging Wildcats managed to hang on.
