D.J. Gay scored 20 points – including the go-ahead free throws with 1:03 remaining – and No. 6 San Diego State held off host UNLV 63-57 on Saturday.

Kawhi Leonard had 14 points for San Diego State (25-1, 10-1 Mountain West), which has won five straight overall and 34 in a row against unranked teams.

Tre’Von Willis scored 13 points for the Rebels (18-7, 6-5), who fell to 1-5 against Top 25 teams this season.

UNLV was looking for a NCAA Tournament resume-boosting win and nearly got it.

The Runnin' Rebels took their first lead since it was 2-0 when Willis hit a jumper with 3:19 remaining. Gay tied it at 55-55 with a free throw, and added two more that made it 59-57 with 1:03 to play.

Willis had a shot to tie it, but his jumper was off and Malcolm Thomas grabbed the rebound with 51 seconds left as the Aztecs held on.
