Mickey McConnell scored a game-high 27 points, including an off-balance, one-handed leaner with one second left, as No. 24 Saint Mary’s beat Gonzaga 73-71 on Thursday.

It was the Gaels' first win at Spokane since 1995.

Down 65-62 with five minutes left, McConnell scored the Gaels’ next eight points to give Saint Mary’s a one-point lead. Gonzaga’s Marquise Carter made two free throws to tie the game at 71 with 10 seconds left, which set the stage for McConnell’s winner.

Matthew Dellavedova and Rob Jones scored 15 points apiece for Saint Mary’s (18-3, 6-0 West Coast Conference), which handed Gonzaga its first three-game losing streak in the WCC since 1997. Jones added a game-high 13 rebounds.

Robert Sacre had 17 points and eight rebounds for Gonzaga (13-8, 3-3), which trails Saint Mary’s by three games. Elias Harris scored 17 points and Sam Dower had 14 for the Bulldogs, who lost at the McCarthey Center for only the sixth time since 2004.

After two surprising road losses to San Francisco and Santa Clara last week, Gonzaga’s run of 10 straight regular-season WCC titles is clearly in jeopardy.
