Erick Green scored a career-high 24 points and visiting Virginia Tech never trailed in a dominant 74-57 victory over Maryland on Thursday in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Malcolm Delaney added 19 points and five rebounds, and Victor Davila had 13 points for Virginia Tech (12-5, 3-2 ACC), which led 40-29 at halftime. Jeff Allen scored seven points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for the Hokies, who have won eight of their last nine.

Maryland (11-7, 1-3) cut a 17-point deficit to eight with 7:25 remaining when Cliff Tucker scored a quick 11 points, including three 3-pointers, but Virginia Tech answered with an 11-4 run to regain control.

Tucker finished with a team-high 13 points for the Terrapins, while Adrian Bowie added 10. After a quiet first half (two points), Jordan Williams extended his streak of double-doubles to 12 games with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Maryland entered the game ranked sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense at 37 percent, but Virginia Tech shot 53.6 percent from the field.

In a game that both teams needed to bolster their NCAA Tournament chances, Maryland was flat in its return home after a three-game road trip that included losses to then-No. 1 Duke and No. 7 Villanova.

The Terrapins shot 35.7 percent from the field, including 30 percent from 3-point range.
