Ben Hansbrough filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists and Tim Abromaitis added 19 points and seven boards as No. 15 Notre Dame held off No. 9 Connecticut, 73-70 on Tuesday.

Scott Martin chipped in 13 points for the Fighting Irish (13-2, 2-1 Big East), who bounced back after falling to Syracuse over the weekend.

Notre Dame had it working from long range early, knocking down three 3-pointers during a 13-3 run to begin the game. The Huskies worked their way back into the game slowly, pulling within a basket on a few occasions in the first half before Abromaitis’ 3-pointer just before the buzzer made it 38-30 at the break.

The Irish held the nation’s leading scorer, Kemba Walker, to four points on 2-of-7 shooting in the first half.

Notre Dame held a slim lead throughout the second, with Connecticut (11-2, 1-2) cutting it to 57-53 on Walker’s layup with 8:50 left. But the senior-laden Irish settled down, pushing it to 64-53 when Hansbrough cut through the lane for a layup at the 5:31 mark.

Walker finished 8-of-23 for 19 points.
