Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl didn’t watch the finish of his team’s game Friday.

He didn’t miss much. The Volunteers were upset once again 91-78 by College of Charleston at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn. All four of Tennessee’s losses have come against unranked teams, and the Volunteers are 1-2 all-time against the Cougars.

Pearl received a second technical and was ejected, with 5:25 remaining. Assistant coach Tony Jones took over as he will do during Pearl’s eight-game suspension during the SEC schedule.

The Volunteers (9-4) lost consecutive games to Oakland, Charlotte and USC before beating Belmont and Tennessee-Martin by just seven points before Friday’s loss.

College of Charleston had its way offensively. The Cougars shot 28 of 49 (57.1 percent), including a superb 14 of 25 (56.0 percent) from 3-point range. Four of their starters scored in double digits.

Guard Andrew Goudelock provided a game-high 31 points, while guard Donavan Monroe added 27. Forward Antwaine Wiggins – of Greeneville, Tenn., just 45 minutes from Knoxville – provided another 15.

Guard Scotty Hopson led Tennessee with 24 points on 9 of 21 shooting (42.3 percent). That was one of the lone bright spots, as the Volunteers shot just 30 of 80 (37.5 percent).
