Austin Freeman scored 24 points and Chris Wright added 19 as No. 9 Georgetown pulled away from No. 17 Memphis 86-69 in a non-conference matchup of two ranked teams Thursday night.

The host Tigers (9-2) led only briefly in the first half. After Antonio Barton’s 3-pointer gave Memphis a 22-18 lead, the Hoyas went on an 11-3 run. Freeman and Wright both had 11 points in the first half as the Hoyas took a 40-36 lead into the break.

Georgetown (11-1) never trailed again. The Hoyas quickly built a double-digit lead in the second half. Memphis trimmed the deficit to 54-45 on a dunk by D.J. Stephens but Georgetown responded with a 15-5 run to put the game away.

Georgetown shot 57 percent from the floor in the game and also got 15 points from Julian Vaughn.

Wesley Witherspoon returned to the Memphis lineup. Witherspoon, the Tigers’ leading scorer was expected to miss over a month after knee surgery but came back in less than two weeks. But Witherspoon managed just three points in the contest.

The Tigers were led by Will Barton with 18 points and Will Coleman added 12.
