Freshman Josh Selby made his season debut in fine form, draining a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left to lift No. 3 Kansas to a 70-68 win over Southern California on Saturday.

Selby led the way with 21 points and Markieff Morris added 11 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks for the Jayhawks (10-0), who pushed their home winning streak to 65 games. Selby had to sit out the first nine games due to an NCAA violation.

Kansas was in control with a 52-42 lead midway through the second half when Jio Fontan, also making his season debut, went to work for the Trojans, knocking down a 3-pointer and completing a three-point play on back-to-back possessions to spark an 11-0 run. The surge gave USC its first lead of the game, 53-52, on Donte Smith’s free throws with 8:30 remaining.

The lead went back and forth until Selby’s 3-pointer put Kansas on top, 69-68. The Trojans had a chance at the end but Maurice Jones’ layup attempt was blocked and Fontan turned the ball over with five seconds left.

Smith led USC (6-5) with 20 points and Fontan added 15.
