Adrian Thomas provided a big spark off the bench for Miami, as he scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Hurricanes to a 68-54 win over Stetson Sunday at the Bank United Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

The game was an opening-round matchup in the Las Vegas Classic, which won’t resume until the Hurricanes (7-2) play back-to-back-to-back games in Nevada Dec. 21-23 against Oral Roberts, Rice and Akron. Miami’s next game is Saturday at Central Florida in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic.

Miami, which has won five in a row dating back to a 79-59 win over McNeese State on Nov. 24, had some initial trouble. The Hatters (3-5) were up 9-4 in the first 4-½ minutes before Miami rallied and tied the score at 11-11 on a 3-pointer by Thomas with 10:40 to go. Malcolm Grant was subsequently fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all three free throws with 10:11 remaining in the half. Stetson never threatened after that.

Grant finished with 11 points for Miami. Stetson’s Ridge Graham scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds.
