Syracuse used a smothering defense to jump ahead early and coast to a 100-43 win over Colgate Saturday night.

Twelve players scored for No. 7 Syracuse (10-0), which started the game on a 17-2 run and stretched the lead to 46-8 at halftime.

The Orange deployed a tenacious defense, forcing 20 Colgate turnovers and recording 13 blocks. Colgate (0-8) shot just 18 percent from the field for the game and finished the first half with more turnovers (14) than points.

Syracuse was led by Rick Jackson, who scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record his eighth double-double of the year. Guard Dion Waiters added 17 points off the bench for the Orange, who recorded their highest point total of the season and won their 45th straight meeting with Colgate.

Colgate’s Joe Hoban scored 14 points to lead the Raiders, who have started 0-8 for the second straight season.
