Freshman forward Terrence Jones recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 27 points and 17 rebounds Wednesday, and No. 16 Kentucky used a late surge to beat No. 23 Notre Dame 72-58 in Louisville.

Playing what was essentially a home game at Freedom Hall, Kentucky finished the Big East/SEC Invitational game with a 13-3 run. Freshman guard Brandon Knight had 20 points and five assists for the Wildcats.

Ben Hansbrough scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half for Notre Dame, which struggled in the second half after shooting 14 for 25 (56 percent) in the first 20 minutes. Forward Carleton Scott was the only other Irish player in double figures, with 10 points with eight rebounds.

Tied 40-40 at halftime, Notre Dame went without a field goal for the first seven minutes of the second half, but Kentucky was unable to take advantage and led by only seven with 8:02 remaining.

The basketball court in Freedom Hall was trimmed in Kentucky blue, with the school logo at midcourt. The Wildcats have won 26 of their past 30 games in the building.

Notre Dame was outrebounded for the first time this season 40-33 due largely to the efforts of the 6-foot-8 Jones, who tied his career high with 17 rebounds. Jones also had three assists and two blocks.
