Marshon Brooks and Providence overwhelmed Brown in the second half en route a 91-64 victory Monday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

Providence (9-1) improved to 8-0 at home and wrapped up the unofficial Ocean State championship after knocking off Rhode Island on Saturday.

The Friars led 39-34 at the half but pulled away over the final 20 minutes, thanks to big nights from Brooks and Vincent Council.

Brooks entered the game as Providence’s leading scorer, averaging 20 points. He matched that in the second half as the Friars outscored the Bears, 52-30, after the break.

Council added 19 points and 16 assists for Providence, with 10 points and 11 assists coming in the second half.

Brown (4-4) was led by Garrett Leffelman with 22 points and Sean McGonagill added 12.

Leffelman scored 14 points in the first half when Brown made a game of it by shooting 54 percent (13-of-24) and canning six 3-pointers.

Providence just was too much athletically, beating Brown 45-27 on the boards and scoring 29 fast-break points. The Friars also turned 18 Brown turnovers into 24 points.
