Trey Thompkins led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds as Georgia held off Alabama-Birmingham 66-64 on Friday.

Jeremy Price added 14 points and Gerald Robinson had 13 for the Bulldogs, who shot 50 percent (28 of 56) and outrebounded the Blazers, 37-27.

Thompkins was 7 of 9 from the field for 14 points in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 43-32 lead into the break. The junior forward had eight points in the first six minutes to help Georgia (5-2) surge out of the gate with a 16-4 run.

But UAB (6-2) stormed back in the second half, opening the period on a 19-8 run and knotting the score at 51-51 when Cameron Moore drained a 3-pointer with 8:37 remaining.

Jamarr Sanders’ jumper with 2:19 put the Blazers up by one, but Thompkins came through with a jumper of his own to put the Bulldogs back on top.

Playing for the first time since dropping two of three at the Old Spice Classic last week, Georgia showed an ability to finish down the stretch, hitting each of its last three field goal attempts and all four free throws in the final two minutes.
