Connecticut dominated the second half Wednesday night to defeat Vermont 89-73 at the XL Center in Hartford.

Guard Kemba Walker led the Huskies with a career-high 42 points as he finished 15-of-25 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line. Walker’s previous best scoring was 29 points.

Roscoe Smith scored 15 points for UConn, and Alex Oriakhi added 11.

Vermont’s top player, Matt Glass, was 6-of-8 from 3-point range on his way to scoring 26 points on the night. Forward Evan Fjeld scored 12 of his 24 points in the first half, helping the Caramounts take a 36-33 lead at the break.

Connecticut (2-0) used a 21-6 run in the second half to wear down Vermont (1-1).

The Huskies next game will be against Wichita State at the Lahaina Civic Center as part of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
