Mike Scott totaled 19 points and 12 rebounds, leading four Virginia players in double figures as the Cavaliers pulled away in the second half for a 74-54 victory over USC Upstate on Monday evening.

USC Upstate (0-2) did not trail until the 7:45 mark of the first half, and the visitors had a 28-27 edge with less than a minute to go before intermission. The Cavaliers, however, went into halftime with a three-point cushion after four foul shots by Scott, and they would not relinquish that lead.

Mustapha Farrakhan opened the second half with a 3-pointer, and Virginia put the game away with a 15-4 run that stretched the lead to 67-52 with 4:29 remaining.

Virginia (2-0) also got 14 points from Billy Baron, while Farrakhan and Jontel Evans finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Spartans were led by Tony Dukes, who scored 19 points in defeat.
