Freshman guard Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 points as Michigan breezed to a 66-35 victory over South Carolina Upstate on Saturday night in the season opener for both schools.

Sophomore guard Darius Morris added 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting as the Wolverines were never challenged by the Atlantic Sun Conference school.

The visiting Spartans (0-1) did not have a player score in double figures and shot an abysmal 22 percent (12-for-54) from the field. Chalmers Rogers scored seven points to lead South Carolina Upstate, which was just 4-of-22 from 3-point range.

Hardaway, the son of former NBA All-Star point guard Tim Hardaway, hit three early 3-pointers to jump-start the Wolverines. Michigan ran to a 24-5 lead behind 11 points from Hardaway and eight from Morris.

South Carolina Upstate hit just 6 of 27 shots in the opening half, and went into the break staring at a 36-18 deficit.
