Reeves Nelson scored a game-high 17 points to lead UCLA to an 83-50 season-opening victory over Cal-State Northridge at Pauley Pavilion on Friday night.

Tyler Honeycutt had 16 points and six rebounds, and Lazeric Jones had 15 points and four assists for the Bruins, who finished 14-18 in 2009-10 for their third losing season in 50 years.

UCLA, which led by as many as 42 points in the second half, scored the game's first 15 points as Northridge didn't score its first point until 4:49 had elapsed. The Bruins also went on a 13-0 run later in the first half to take a 37-9 lead.

UCLA shot 18 for 25 from the field in the first half en route to a 46-24 lead. Jones scored 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting, while Honeycutt, Nelson and Malcolm Lee scored eight points apiece in the first half.

Northridge was 8 for 29 from the field in the first half.

The Bruins, who beat Northridge 85-67 in 2008, lead the series 6-1.

UCLA returns to action Monday when it hosts Pepperdine in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Rashaun McLemore scored a team-high 10 points for Northridge, which was 11-21 last season.
