Reserve Billy Baron scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half as Virginia broke open a tight game en route to a 76-52 victory over in-state for William & Mary on Friday night.

Mike Scott finished with 18 points and nine rebounds for the Cavaliers, who improved to 9-0 all-time against the Tribe

Baron drained three 3-pointers over a four-minute stretch that expanded a seven-point lead to 65-44 with 6:30 left. Baron finished 6-of-8 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Quinn McDowell had 16 points and JohnMark Ludwick added 13 for the Tribe, who finished 22-10 last season in the Colonial Athletic Association.

William & Mary scored the final seven points of the first half to pull within 28-27. Despite making just 10-of-26 shots in the half, the Tribe hung around by committing just one turnover and getting 10 points from Marcus Kitts.

Virginia finished 15-16 last season and 5-11 in the ACC in head coach Tony Bennett’s first season.
