DePaul 60, Georgetown 56: Forrest Robinson made four 3-pointers en route to 14 points as the Blue Demons defeated the Hoyas in the opening round of the Big East tournament.

DePaul (12-20) had not defeated Georgetown (17-14) in any of the last 14 meetings between the schools and entered this matchup having lost 12 of its last 13 games overall. However, the 10th-seeded Blue Demons advanced to take on second-seeded Creighton on Thursday thanks primarily to Robinson and Billy Garrett Jr., who made four big free throws in the final minute and finished with 17 points.

Brandon Young added 13 points for DePaul, while D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 21 points and Markel Starks had 17 to lead seventh-seeded Georgetown. The Hoyas and Blue Demons each shot about 40 percent from the field and combined to go 10-of-36 from 3-point range, although Robinson was 4-of-5 from outside the arc.

In a tight game throughout, Robinson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to turn a 45-45 tie into a six-point lead for the Blue Demons, who tacked on a jumper by Garrett to go up eight with just over four minutes left. Smith-Rivera's two foul shots drew the Hoyas within 55-52 with 61 seconds to go, but Georgetown could not get the defensive rebound after DePaul missed on the other end, and Garrett ended up at the foul line, where he knocked down a pair.

With eight seconds left, Jabril Trawick's layup kept things interesting, slicing Georgetown's deficit to 58-56. But Garrett again went 2-of-2 from the line and Starks' desperation 3-point attempt wouldn't fall in the final seconds.
