Wizards 99, Pistons 95: John Wall scored 22 points to help host Washington hang on to end a six-game losing streak.
Nene had 21 points and Marcin Gortat added 16 and a season-high 17 rebounds for the Wizards, who had lost 11 of their previous 13 games. Paul Pierce returned from a two-game layoff due to a knee injury to produce 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Greg Monroe finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds as Detroit dropped its third straight since a win over Washington on Sunday. Rookie Spencer Dinwiddie added a career-high 20 points - 13 in the fourth quarter - off the bench while Andre Drummond had 13 points and nine boards.
A basket by Nene gave Washington an 18-point lead with under five minutes to go in the third, but Detroit utilized a 24-7 surge extending into the fourth and later took an 89-88 lead on Dinwiddie's floater with five minutes left. The Wizards went back up 96-91 on Wall's basket with a minute to go before Monroe and Dinwiddie scored to make it a one-point game. Bradley Beal hit one free throw and Wall made two after a big offensive board by Gortat for a safe four-point cushion in the closing seconds.
After averaging 79 points in their last two games and shooting a season-low 32.3 percent Friday at Philadelphia, the Wizards went 16-of-24 from the floor in taking a 37-27 lead after one quarter. Pierce buried his third 3-pointer on the opening possession of the second quarter as Washington maintained control, racing to a 60-44 halftime advantage.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wizards PF Kris Humphries (hamstring) missed his third straight game. ... Drummond was 3-of-10 from the line as Detroit finished 11-of-21. ... Beal (leg) returned from an eight-game layoff to produce eight points on 2-of-10 shooting with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
